NEWS UPDATE! Start Point Lighthouse was recently closed to the public for nine months to allow for refurbishment and update. The iconic Fresnel Lens was replaced by LED lights along with other improvements to aid navigation for mariners. You can now see the old lens in the updated Visitor Centre and the new LEDs in the Lantern Room, we are now fit for the future!

Just to whet your appetite…..Start Point Lighthouse took 40 men to build and has provided a welcome way-mark for returning sailors to the South West since it was built in 1836. And apart from confirming your position it is situated at the end of one the most exposed peninsulas on the South Devon coast, its beams and booms warn sailors of the notoriously hazardous waters around Start Point and the infamous Start Point tidal race.
Take a breath of sea air, drama, history and nature when you visit Start Point Lighthouse and climb the tower to hear breathtaking stories about storms, shipwrecks and lighthouse living – a truly enlightening experience!
