February 2020 News Update:
Trinity House are changing the way that Start Point Lighthouse will be open to the public for 2020. Following the Half Term openings, no further open dates or booking procedures have been announced, so unfortunately we are unable to take any bookings for private group tours.

Start Point Lighthouse was modernised in 2019, upgrading the aids to navigation and control systems to provide simplified maintenance and reliable performance. This included the installation of new LED lamps for the main navigation light and a new hazard warning signal. The iconic Fresnel Lens was removed during this process and you can now see it up close in the updated Visitor Centre, we are now fit for the future!

Just to whet your appetite…..Start Point Lighthouse took 40 men to build and has provided a welcome way-mark for returning sailors to the South West since it was built in 1836. And apart from confirming your position it is situated at the end of one the most exposed peninsulas on the South Devon coast, its beams and booms warn sailors of the notoriously hazardous waters around Start Point and the infamous Start Point tidal race.
Take a breath of sea air, drama, history and nature when you visit Start Point Lighthouse and climb the tower to hear breathtaking stories about storms, shipwrecks and lighthouse living – a truly enlightening experience!
